The goal of this basement remodeling project was to provide an area in the home for relaxation, children's gatherings, and family fun. The open space floor plan, designed by Joseph Calderwood of CM Consulting Group in Willoughby , Ohio , allows for ease of entertainment and maximizes flexible use of the space. This project included the typical scope of work for a basement: new walls, ceiling, electrical and plumbing rough-in and finish details but.. new "Densarmor" mold-resistant and damage resistant drywall was an upgrade - since the basement is below grade (moisture) and the couple's child is a sports fanatic with lots of energy. Stock cabinets were customized to sit in under the stairs and allow installation of a refrigerator and wine cooler without protruding into the room. Concealed storage was created with 2 large double door, deep shelved, closets providing ample storage space for organizing sports equipment, children's toys and games and household items. A separate utility room conceals the furnace, hot water heater, laundry machines and a laundry sink. VCT was installed in the utility room while attractive limestone tile was installed in the entry and porcelain tile was installed in the bathroom. Check out the full bathroom where tiles in primary colors add excitement to the overall design. The existing glass block windows were "box framed down" to allow for the installation of shop-built display cases feature trophies and sports collectables. The customer finished the space by having a stereo company install a home theatre including a 65" wall screen. "The basement has become our living room", the customer has told us repeatedly.
"As the author of the project drawings for the gameroom renovation, I was very impressed from my recent visit on how the project turned out. Being in the construction industry for most of my life, I have seen a wide range of workmanship through general contractors, both bad and good. After inspecting the completing of the basement project I would like to compliment Dave Myers and your team on doing an excellent job in following through on the plan details along with implementing improvements to the plan concept to give the project a finishing touch."
